According to Sam Amick of USA Today, DeMar DeRozan will return to Toronto with the San Antonio Spurs on February 22nd.
DeRozan was traded from the Raptors to the Spurs in July along with Jakob Poeltl in exchange for Kawhi Leonard, Danny Green, and a protected first-round pick. DeRozan himself was dismayed with the news, declaring that Raptors brass had misled him about the imminence of a trade.
Many Torontonians were shocked to see a franchise icon traded away for potential one-year rental, with some deeming DeRozan the greatest Raptor in history. DeRozan re-signed with the Raptors without taking a meeting with his hometown Los Angeles Lakers, who seemed intent on making DeRozan their franchise player. There’s no doubt that he’ll get strong applause in his first game back at Scotiabank Arena.
